Welcome to a Place of Refreshing

Welcome to the Place of Refreshing! I started this blog because I wanted a place where I could go to and get refreshed, uplifted, and nourished in the things of God and His Word.  This is a container for the gifts I find along the way in my journey to truth, through truth, and with the Truth.  These are the things I share with you.

As a child of God who loves the Lord, I am earnestly seeking Him and His ways, His truths, and His light.  He makes a way out of no way. He does the impossible in the midst of our impossibilities. That is the God I serve. He is the one true God and there are not other gods above Him.

I trust you are here because you believe as I believe.  I hope you find refreshing here.  Visit often, you are welcome here!

If You Want to Know Who I am…

God is saying to you today,

“If you want to know who I am, you need to understand that I am the God of Jacob.  I’m the God of that part of you that you don’t want anybody to see.  I’m not just the God of your success.  I’m the God of your struggle.  I’m not just the God of your victories.  I’m the God of your defeats!”

Declare This Over Yourself (1st Peter)

Confess these passages from the 1st Peter over yourself.  Let the Word of God work in you today!

I am agreeable

I am sympathetic

I am loving

I am compassionate

I am humble

I do not retaliate

I do not offer sharp tongued sarcasm

I bless

My job is to bless

I will be a blessing and therefore I will get a blessing

I want to embrace life and see my day fill up with good, therefore

I will say nothing evil or hurtful

I snub evil and cultivate good

I run after peace for all I am worth

God looks on all this with approval

God listens and responds well to what I ask

God turns His back on those who do evil things

I do good with my heart and soul

Therefore I cannot be stopped

Even if I suffer for it I am still better off

I don’t give the opposition a second thought

Through thick and thin I keep my heart at attention and in adoration  before you Christ, my master

I am ready to speak up and tell anyone who asks why I live the way I do, and always with the utmost courtesy

I keep a clear conscience before God so that when people throw mud at me, none of it will stick

They will realize it is them who are dirty and need a bath

It is better to suffer for doing good, if that is what God wants, than to be punished for doing bad.

That is what Christ definitively did: suffered because of others’ sins – the Righteous One for the unrighteous.

Jesus you went through it all – You were put to death and then made alive to bring all to God

Prayer for Suicidal Thoughts

A Prayer for Fighting Suicidal Thoughts

My 19 year old neighbor stumbled across the street to see me this morning shortly after I opened my garage door at 7:00 am.  His demeanor was off, his head was down,  and I immediately sensed that he was high on something.
He slurred a “Hi” to which I responded “Good morning. How are you? What’s going on?” He told me that he had dropped 10 tabs of acid, had been up all night and was contemplating suicide.

My immediate thought was to grab his hand and place my hand on his forehead and pray. But I didn’t do that. And I regret it.  After he went home, I came to my senses and was appalled at my inaction.  This was a cry for help that he trusted me with and I did not respond! I actually enabled him in his weakness.

I asked the Lord to please forgive me.  Then the Holy Spirit told me it was not too late and to find a Prayer to pray for him that covered suicide.

I prayed this prayer for my neighbor. Then I sent it to him in a text with a note saying that I prayed it for him and invited him to pray it with me.  I apologized to him for enabling him and asked him to come talk to me later.   I know that God will grant me another opportunity to pray over him and to sow goodness and hope into this young man.

Have you ever had that experience?  Maybe you will in the future. I pray that you are able to be vigilant and steadfast in the face of it and not falter like I did. God is true and His Word works and He always answers prayer. He is a forgiving God and honors obedience.

He has been dealing with me about obedience and this was one of my many ultimate tests – to be obedient. I failed again in that moment. But God did not let me stay there in failure and defeat.

The Holy Spirit told me what to do and I obeyed! Be encouraged and be obedient.  Praise the Lord!

What in the World is “the anointing”?

What in the world is the anointing pic

By: Kenneth Copeland Ministries

A whole new world will open up for you as you discover not just what the anointing is, but what it means to you.

The Bible defines the anointing as “God on flesh doing those things that flesh cannot do.” In other words, it’s God doing through people like us what we couldn’t do on our own (2 Corinthians 4:7).

The Hebrew word Messiah and the Greek word Christ both mean “the anointed.” For centuries the Jews waited for the Promised Messiah (the Anointed One), through whom the yoke of Satan’s oppression would be destroyed: “And it shall come to pass in that day, that his burden shall be taken away from off thy shoulder, and his yoke from off thy neck, and the yoke shall be destroyed because of the anointing” (Isaiah 10:27).

The word destroyed means “absolutely crushed, corrupted beyond use, no good for the devil’s use anymore.” At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus stood in the synagogue one Sabbath and read this prophecy from the book of Isaiah:

“The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord…. And he began to say unto them, This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears” (Luke 4:18-19, 21).

Jesus had the yoke-destroying, burden-removing power of Almighty God all over Him, and that’s what He preached and demonstrated during His ministry. And the anointing didn’t end with Jesus. After He was crucified and right before He ascended into heaven, Jesus told His followers to wait in Jerusalem until they were baptized in the Holy Spirit and received “power after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you” (Acts 1:4-5, 8). Just as the word Christ is not just another name for Jesus but is defined as “the Anointed One,” Christians means more than just followers of Jesus. It means “the anointeds.”

If you are “in Christ,” there is an anointing for everything you are called to do, no matter how small or how great the task. That’s why the Apostle Paul could say, “I can do all things through Christ (the Anointed and His Anointing) which strengtheneth me” (Philippians 4:13).
